What makes a reading clean
If the psychic world is a little unfamiliar for you it can easily be intimidating. But once you get over the unusualness of it, it’s just like everything else. You want to make sure you’re getting a clean reading and good guidance. Here are a few things to consider:
A bit of trust is helpful, blind faith is not.
Readers often get a bad rap. Some deserve it. A lot of tarot and psychic readings and similar experiences hold a power dyanamic that’s not acknowledged. You're coming in and sharing your most vulnerable, hidden parts with someone you barely know, who claims to have access to the answers. That takes something. Readers carrying a badge of ‘Master Psychic’ or a strong instagram following may have a strong vibe or clever words but many people will see through that if it’s not backed up. On the other hand, a lot of readers are really genuine and doing their best to help, and it makes the job a whole lot harder if someone’s so skeptical that you’re having to defend your position before you’ve taken a breath. I find when clients are genuinely open to what I’m bringing through the information flows a lot clearer. I can access their ‘field’ easier. The whole reading goes much better.
A reader is always filtering through their own lens.
Every reader is different in how they receive information. Some lean more towards the visual side. Others have more of a ‘feeling’ or inner knowing. Some hear voices. Others have physical cues. Some a mix. Some maybe just make the whole thing up, who knows? But the thing to remember is, the way information comes through from the spirit realm is that it requires translation into words and some degree of interpretation. I’ve been shown a girl crossing a road on her way to school before by a deceased husband who wanted his wife to know he’s still watching out for her. I translated that to her as ‘he’s still looking out for your children’, thinking she had two. But there was only one daughter. So I learned. A good reader will provide a cleaner answer. They’ll be aware of their own biases, assumptions and references. And they’ll check with you rather than sticking to them.
No matter what anyone else or who they claim it’s from, if it feels off, trust your own instincts first.
There’s a certain quality of feeling when something’s true. You just know. You may not like it, you may react against it. But you know it’s right. On some level you also know when someone’s saying something that sounds like the right thing but isn’t. We’re conditioned to submit our internal authority to authority figures from a young age, so it’s important to be tuned in. Your own discernment matters. If something doesn't land, you don't have to make it fit. Say so. Clarify what doesn't make sense. Dig in. Often that's where anot layer comes through — and some of the most powerful readings happen in that pushback, not in the first pass. And please dont think you have to do something because some ‘higher power’ told you to. You don’t. You know what’s best for you. And even if you make a mistake, it’s your mistake, not theirs.
A reading doesn’t always have to be literally accurate.
That being said, it's worth being honest about the mystery here. What comes through in a reading is what comes through. The web of causality, karma, and choice is more complex than any one person — reader or client — can fully map. It might not be exactly ‘accurate’ in the literal sense but it might still be useful. I can only pass on the information I get. What I can do is bring the practice to it. The training, the initiations, the years of sitting with this work — that's what keeps the channel clear and the information clean. But even so, the information arrives as it arrives.
Is the reader a clean channel?
Aside from their physical filters, the energies a reader taps into will depend on their spiritual work. This includes their lifestyle and how clean their energy system is. Practices like meditation and fasting can really clear the body to channel. If they dont do that regularly then that’s going to reflect in their reading. Similarly, who do they work with? There are a lot of lower astral beings people like to work with because they can bring quicker results in the physical world, and more practical benefits related to love or wealth. A reader that’s working with higher spiritual energies from whichever tradition will be able to access a different quality of guidance for you. It becomes less about the daily practicalities and more about where your soul is headed and what’s spiritually aligned.
A good reader will reschedule.
When reading it’s important to be feeling healthy and centered. It’s worth taking a moment to check in and sense: are they well-rested, have they had a bad day, can they actually be present right now? A clean reader will say "I'm not in a good space today, let's do this another time." That's actually one of the strongest trust signals you can get, and it's the opposite of what a "clean channel" scam would do.
The container.
You don’t need to be in a candle and crystal-lined healing center for a clean reading but you need to have some basics in place. A clean, quiet space. Some kind of positive invocation of your guides or the spiritual energies you’re working. And above all, a sense of physical and emotional safety. If something feels ‘weird’ or ‘off’, politely remember you have another appointment and head for the exit.
Bring your own clear energy to the reading.
This is a tricky one because sometimes you’re just in it and you need a reading because life isn’t letting you off the hook. Fair enough. But if you have the luxury of a bit of freedom in this regard, then showing up in a positive frame of mind and physical condition that respects the work will really help. If you’ve been out the night before and eating a load of heavy food and you’re cramming it between work and the gym, your reading’s not going to be the same as if you make space and go in with respect for your own process and guides.
How open you are makes a difference.
Many people come in to get specific answers to specific problems in their life. That’s totally fair. If you’re spending half your day checking your phone to see if he will text, then if that’s what you want to focus on in a reading, that’s entirely up to you. Many readers will meet you exactly there and that’s valid. In my readings, the guidance I always get will be much broader than that. I’m seeing how that pattern is a result of conditions in your childhood and his, and the opportunities to clear it for good. If you’re ready to go there, it’s going to give you more information and help you make higher-level decisions about what to do. If not, that’s ok as well, there’s a right time for all of it.
