Studying the map

I'm not really one for following rules. Similar work to a psychic reading, but you can see what's being pulled and react to it in real time.

A tarot reading is a psychic reading with the cards in front of you. Similar work — I still channel — but the cards give the reading its own shape and flavour. You see what's being pulled. You can react to it. And if something lands strongly, we dig into it together rather than me just telling you what I see.

They carry their own nuance, which brings through different layers of information which probably wouldn’t come through in a pure psychic reading. You get a more rounded sense of the whole landscape of what’s operating in the background, rather than the more tactical guidance that tends to come through from your team.

Where your team might say '“you’re working too hard, this person’s not doing you any favours, and you need to eat more kale”. The cards would say “you’re in a psychological and physical pressure container that’s helping you to confront outdated beliefs around scarcity and you’re latching on to your unreliable friend because of unresolved energetics around betrayal and abandonment. You need grounding nourishment to support the process”.

As far as readers go, my approach to tarot is pretty loose. I’m not someone who gets hung up on exactly what a card means in the traditional or “correct” sense. That’s valid and it works for some people. Just for me, the cards are windows to deeper energies that speak different messages each time in different contexts. I channel whatever comes through them as I read. I might even skip one if I pulled it but it’s not resonating yet, and come back to it later. I’m not really one for following rules.

In a more mechanical sense it changes the dynamic. In a psychic reading I'm narrating what comes through and you're receiving it. In a tarot reading there's a shared visual reference in the space between us. A card comes up and you go "oh, that's her" or "I don't think that's right" or "that's exactly it" — and that reaction becomes part of the work. The cards aren't doing the reading. I'm doing the reading. But they give us something to point at, and that changes how the information lands.

A tarot reading is the one I'd suggest if you're at a major turning point or need to make a big decision that needs a map. The cards are good at laying out options, consequences, and the shape of a situation in a way that's easier to hold than a purely verbal description. "Here's what happens if you do A, here's what happens if you do B, here's what's underneath both of them." You can see it. You can sit with it. You can ask me to pull another card on a specific branch.

It's not about fortune telling. The cards aren't predicting what's going to happen. They're showing you the structure of what's already there — the pattern, the dynamic, the option you haven't considered. And they can show the kinds of conditions that will be created via different choices, so you can decide for yourself. What you do with that is still yours.

It's the same length and format as a psychic reading. Tarot works well both when you want to focus in a more targeted way towards a specific challenging area of your life, as well as when you want to zoom out and get a broad survey of what’s going on at a deeper level for you at this stage in your life. You get the mood and feeling of that very viscerally through the tarot. The psychic readings are a little more tactical and practical, you’re less ‘in the depths’ with those, although they can still give really supportive insight into what’s asking to be worked with.
