I've done my fair share of wandering around sacred sites. Not just wandering, dammit. Work. Ritual. Ceremony. Being an energy conductor. And showing up at the appointed time and place at great inconvenience to my human self, quite frankly. I can't count how many thousands I've spent, random night buses I've taken, and shitty hotel rooms I've stayed in on a hunch that I need to be in some random place for some inexplicable reason. It's the kind of spiritual work that gets completely unacknowledged by anyone and sometimes makes me think that I'm totally mad.
But a deeper, wiser part of me seems to know something else: that me, the earth, and the cosmos are intimately bound in a dance and my path, my fate even, perhaps, is intertwined with the body of Gaia. It makes it all worth it.
The travelling around the UK in the van was the start. Tracing the ley lines and visiting the stone circles. Peru and Asia were a continuation of that work, taken to a global level. I don't see it stopping anytime soon.
The chakras. The leylines. The two serpents. And what kept coming back: the structure is already there. It's not a belief system. It's a map of something real.
Background
Alfred Watkins noticed the lines in 1921. John Michell made them global and energetic in 1969. Robert Coon drew the two-serpent map in 1967. The tracks were walked before they were called anything.
The Gaia floor
Lovelock in the 70s. Earth as a self-regulating system. Not conscious, not spiritual — just regulating. The biosphere maintaining its own conditions. Homeostasis. Feedback loops it didn't design.
That's the scientific floor. And it's real. Published. Contested, but real. The planet is a system that maintains itself. That's not mysticism. That's chemistry and biology and geology talking to each other.
Now. The esoteric layer says: and it's not just regulating. It's thinking. It's feeling. It has chakras. It has a spine. It has a voice. And the leylines are the nervous system. The meridians. The pathways where the signal actually travels.
I don't need the science to prove the second layer. I need the science to show me that the first layer is real. And it is. The planet is an organism. The question is just: how much of the organism are we willing to acknowledge?
Lenton and Latour, 2018, in Science. Gaia 2.0. Consciousness is now part of the regulation. That's the bridge between the scientific floor and the personal angle, and it's published in a peer-reviewed journal.
I've met Gaia on ayahuasca. She's awesome – gentle and fierce and magickal. I want to be on her team for sure.
The Map
Here's the standard map: Seven chakras. Same seven as the body (even though there are more in both but let's stick with the basics here).
Mount Shasta. The most primal centre. Releases undifferentiated life-force — prana — into global circulation before it takes form anywhere else. The geyser. No shape yet. No structure. Just the uprush. Haven't been.
Lake Titicaca. Governs the creation of new species. Evolutionary advances. One of the two great ley crossroads — where the Rainbow Serpent and the Plumed Serpent intersect. For me, it was a deep portal. Imaginal realm. The place where what's truly New is born.
Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Maintains the vitality of the Earth and all living species. The Rainbow Serpent emerges here and transmits solar-plexus energy worldwide. The place where the raw vitality gets packaged into the designs suited to the many different species. Haven't been.
Glastonbury and Shaftesbury. The Earth's heart. Glastonbury holds the Grail. Shaftesbury holds the Spear. The Wand of Will. Their union is the whole thing — love directed by purpose. Christ consciousness. Faerie consciousness. The Devic Kingdom. The place where the immortalising frequencies get delivered to all beings. I've been. I know what I mean.
The Middle East. The throat. Where the voice of the planet emerges. Unique in sitting on neither major ley artery. Also the Air Vortex. And the pyramids — disseminating stations. The throat as the centre that controls space and time. Dimensionality. The voice is there. The signal is there. But it's being blocked. The throat is being compressed. And I think that's what the Gaia hypothesis would say. A self-regulating system under stress. A body fighting an infection. The immune response is loud and ugly and necessary. The system is doing what it does when something is wrong. It's not broken. It's responding.
The Aeon Activation Centre. Mobile. Shifts one-twelfth of the way westward at the dawn of each new zodiacal Aeon. Stays active 150 to 200 years. Then dissolves. Currently — 1904 to 2084 — it's conjunct with Chakra 4 in western Europe. The third eye is moving. That's the one that makes the whole system non-static. The map is being redrawn in real time.
Mount Kailash. The crown. Broadcasts the Earth's True Will. The blueprints for global evolution, released year by year. The Scorpio full moon here marks the Earth's new year. Haven't been. Been called. So hard to get to. Not necessary right now.
The three extra gates:
Bali. Gate 10. Purification. The two great ley arteries cross here, as at Titicaca. Six sacred sites act as a filter. All the water. Tirta Empul. Not just a tourist show. The power there is still very real. All the temples around the island as a structure of the filtering mechanism. Bali herself as a firm and loving healing agent. Removes old impurities from the heart. All ley forces pass through before exiting the island. By the time they leave, they're clean.
El Tule / Palenque. Gate 11. Balance. Yin and yang. Northern hemisphere yang, southern hemisphere yin. The macrocosmic balancing is governed from here. I went there. And to Palenque. It holds structure. I felt it. Corresponds with balance and harmony. But it's not soft. Deeper governance energies. Still very active. Not messing around.
Mount Fuji. Gate 12. Immortality and ideal beauty. Focus for Aquarius new and full moons. The name means "immortal" — from a very old, indigenous word. Destined to be a world beacon of the Truth of Everlasting Life. Haven't been.
Two arteries:
Rainbow Serpent. Yin. The path of life. Uluru to Bali to Kailash to Sergiev Posad to Glastonbury to Titicaca.
Plumed Serpent. Yang. Quetzalcoatl. The path of will. El Tule, Mexico to Shasta to Fuji to Bali to Titicaca.
They cross at two points. Titicaca and Bali. Two crossroads. Two places where yin and yang meet and the whole system breathes.
That's the map. And the pattern is old. Older than any single culture. The Aboriginal songlines trace the same paths. The Māori narratives track the same rivers. Different languages. Same geometry.
Meridians and dragons
The Chinese called it feng shui. Lung mei. Dragon veins. Two thousand years old. The model is explicit: the body of the earth is like that of a human being. Mountains are the bones. Ridges are the spine. Rivers are the blood. The landscape is a living organism with energy anatomy. The feng shui master doesn't draw the lines. He walks the ground and reads the dragon. The dragon is already there. You're not making the map. You're following the body.
Mountains = bones / spine ; Ridges = the dragon's back ; Valleys = the dragon's belly ; Rivers = blood ; Springs = the dragon's eyes ; The "heart of the dragon" = a knoll in a small valley, where the energy pools
The state protected them. Tang dynasty edicts. Ming and Qing era stone inscriptions. Bans on mining, quarrying, tree felling. Fines. Not as religion. As infrastructure. The thing that keeps the empire stable. The Great Wall follows the ridgelines. It is a dragon vein marker. The most massive human structure on earth, built to align with the energy anatomy of the land.
And when the vein gets blocked — sha qi. Toxic energy. Rises vertically. Affects everything above it. A sick lung mai. That's the throat chakra. That's the Middle East right now. The signal is there. The vein is compressed. The sickness is rising.
Michell in 1969 borrowed the term. Transliterated "lung mei" into his English text. Watkins noticed the lines. Michell made them energy. And the energy vocabulary came from China. Again, different languages, same geometry. Same body.
De Stefano
Matías De Stefano. A modern Argentine spiritual teacher. He echoes this too: the planet isn't a backdrop. It's a living, thinking being. With its own anatomy. Water is the blood. The Atlantic is the main meridian. Greenland is the breathing nose. Iceland is the pineal gland. Continents are organs. The Nile is the spine — and along it, a temple system that mirrors the human energetic structure. Each sacred site a chakra point.
Where the earlier models anchored each chakra to a single mountain or lake, De Stefano maps them to broader continental regions:
Africa is the root. South America is the sacral. Asia and Oceania are the solar plexus. Europe is the heart. The Middle East is the throat. Tibet is the crown.
And the key distinction for me: he says the chakras are moving. Reconfiguring. Not fixed. Energy that once circulated through one region is migrating. The planet is shifting frequency and the map is being redrawn in real time.
I haven't experienced it personally but I believe it enough to hold it as a working model. I like it more than a static fixed map, in fact.
The places that are most in flux — the Middle East, the Pacific Rim, South America — they line up with the chakra points. And the places that are most stable — Australia, the Andes, Tibet — they also line up with the chakra points. The chakra points are where the action is. Where the signal is strongest. Where the system is most active. Whether you call it "energy" or "geological activity" or "cultural intensity" — the correlation is there. And the Gaia hypothesis says: of course. If the planet is a self-regulating system, then the points of highest regulation are the points of highest activity. The joints. The hinges. The places where the system flexes.
The science gap
The science says: no. No measurable energy field. No magnetometer picks it up. The alignments are statistical artifacts. And they're right. I'm not going to argue with the null hypothesis.
But Paul Devereux, the most rigorous person in the field, measured at stone circles and found localised anomalies at individual sites — real, measurable — but no evidence of linear connections between them. Places of power yes, energy lines no. And then he reframed the whole thing as "paths of spirits" — which is closer to what I actually experienced than the energy-grid framing ever was.
The Gaia hypothesis was dismissed for decades too. And then the feedback loops got mapped. And the dismissive scientists had to update.
The question isn't "is it real?" The question is "what's the resolution of our instruments?"
Being a cell
What the ancients were doing wasn't measuring or mapping. Just in it. Standing on the joint. Feeling the hinge. Knowing, without the map, that the place was there.
And I think that's why the wandering works. Why walking the path works. The practice is showing up. Not understanding. Showing up.
It's not a spiritual obligation. It's not "you must serve the Earth chakra." It's more like: you're a cell in a body, and the body has a structure, and the structure has a function for where you are. You don't have to do the function. You just have to be in it. And the more you're present in it — actually there, actually paying attention, actually in the place rather than just passing through — the more the signal flows.
De Stefano calls it "opening the gates like flowers." I think that's right. Not forcing. Not performing. Just... being the cell that's awake. The one that's actually there instead of dissociated.
And that's the Lenton point too. The cell that knows it's a cell. The new variable in the feedback loop. The one that's awake. That's what I'm doing. Or trying to. I think that changes the regulation. I think that's the whole Gaia 2.0 thing. The consciousness in the loop.
I wonder if I'll ever get to find out what kind of cell I am or if I'll just keep booking myself on flights halfway across the world to go and show up as some kind of protein delivery mechanism.
Morphogenetic fields
The best bridge I've found is Rupert Sheldrake's work on morphic fields. In The Rebirth of Nature (1990), he explicitly combines Lovelock's Gaia with his own morphic field theory:
"If Gaia is in some sense animate, then she must have something like a soul, an organizing principle with its own ends or purposes."
He doesn't talk about chakras or serpents. He'd find all of that too structured, too map-like. His whole thing is that the field is not a structure. It's a habit. It's a tendency. It's not a grid.
Morphic resonance. The memory is in the place. Not in the line. Not in the conduit. In the place itself. Every person who's ever stood in that stone circle and done the work added their repetition to the field. The field got stronger. The habit got deeper. The place remembers. And the next person who shows up can feel it a little more easily.
You don't need to be the protein delivery mechanism. You just need to be the repetition. Show up. Sit. Be there. The field does the rest. That's a different explanation for the same phenomenon. And it's less grand. And I think that's why it might land harder. Maybe you don't have to be a cell in a body. You just have to be a repetition in a field. And the field is the place. And the place is already there. I don't know. I'm still thinking about it.
What I'm holding
I'm not an expert. I'm not Matias. I'm not Sheldrake. I'm not an Aboriginal walking the song lines. I show up at a stone circle or a lake and mostly, honestly, I just feel kind of awkward. Like I should be doing more. Saying some special words. Putting a crystal in the ground. Something.
But that would be faking it. The reality, often is simply: show up, sit for a while, then go and get a cup of tea.
My intuition knows it's right. My rational mind is catching up that that approach has more validity than I gave it credit for.
That's it for now.
